About Walt
As your candidate for Alachua County Commission District 3 in 2012, Walt would like to welcome you to his website. His hope is that you will visit often and get to know him as a person and your candidate.
He is a Fiscal Conservative and believes that we cannot allow government to take over our lives or our livelihood and spend taxpayer dollars recklessly. He is an active member of the Alachua County Republican Executive Committee, a member of the Gainesville Tea Party. (our Tea Party does not endorse candidates), and has been active in our community regarding the treatment of our homeless Veterans. Help Walt bring sanity back to our county by pressing for fiscal responsibility, a smaller less intrusive government, and a county that will embrace business and recognize them as the life blood of our communities. Although he has never held an elected office, he believes that his life experiences qualify him for this position.
Throughout the campaign he will update the site and the blog page with issues that he encounters which are important to all residents of Alachua County. Please contact him at any time with your concerns or ideas that we might be able to use to make our county a better place to live as he works to become your County Commissioner.
Just a bit about Walt personally, He was born in 1964 in Puerto De Santa Maria Spain. His father (who was active Navy) met and married his mother while stationed there. He was exposed early in life to military style discipline which has instilled such qualities as Honesty, integrity and respect as well as making him realize the importance of having strong work ethics. Walt enlisted in the Navy after HS but after serving one tour, realized that what he really wanted was to concentrate on the responsibilities of family life. Walt believes family comes first and is a devoted father to 6 children.
Walt has been in the Automotive Service field in one fashion or another since being out of the Navy. He has been behind the parts counter, has been a Service Advisor and has managed Retail Parts stores and Retail Service shops where he learned the economic side of the businesses, and was able to obtain a Business Management certificate from Cornell University. He opened his own auto repair business in 1993 called “Hot Rods &Harleys” but closed it shortly afterwards because landlord attempted to make changes to building lease agreement. He is currently an A.S.E. certified Auto Tech employed at Pep Boys.
